It is time to...DO THE WRITE THING!

Welcome to Do The Write Thing! Do The Write Thing Foundation of DC (EIN 27-2171541) is incorporated as a nonprofit in the District. It is recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS (effective April 5, 2010). The mission of Do The Write Thing (DTWT) is to enhance the life success of children and youth through the arts. Its vision is to use the arts to teach discipline, improve self-esteem, inspire creativity, and help young people to set and reach goals.


Accomplishments

Do The Write Thing has been vetted by the D.C. Public Schools and is an approved provider of after-school programs. Mayor Vincent Gray honored DTWT for being the best 2012 summer site at a ceremony on August 3, 2012. DTWT has gained positive media attention for its work. Its 2013-2014 after school poetry club at Kelly Miller Middle School was featured at the website of the United Way of the National Capital Area for almost one year.

DTWT youth have published six books of poetry that are available for public consumption at Amazon.com: Black Flames (2011); Paper Outlets (2011); Our Planets, Ourselves (2012); Poetry in Motion: The Birth of Success (2013); Poetic Anthologies (2014); Written Soul (2015). Youth have signed copies of their books at the Author's Pavilion during the prestigious Congressional Black Caucis Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference at the D.C. Convention Center in September 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2012, the youth were considered by the NAACP image Awards nominating committee in the literature category.
